the bull inn – totnes: customer spotlight

Our customer spotlight this week is centered around The Bull Inn based in Totnes, Devon. They are an ethical, organic pub and hotel. With a set of “No-Bull Rules”, they follow the planet, people and profit ethos. This year they won the Sustainability Award in the 2024 National Restaurant Awards. This award celebrates the very best establishments on the UK’s restaurant scene!

There are many reasons that The Bull Inn are an award winning pub and hotel, but we’d like to share one part of it today:

Here are some of our favourite “No-Bull Rules to Trade By”

3/9 TRADE WITH THOSE WHO GET IT
Choose suppliers who understand that there is no us vs Earth.
As a supplier, and also a consumer, Binit makes its commitment to the circular economy and to reduce our environmental impacts known to all suppliers of our goods and services. We actively work to find suppliers committed to the best environmental practices. We will support our suppliers in their journey to improve their performance.

6/9 THINK ABOUT WHO IS GETTING YOUR MONEY
Choose to deal with co-operatives, employee-owned businesses, B Corps, charities, and social enterprises first. NOT tax-dodgers.
Binit are a female-led, aspiring B-Corp company. We are here to revolutionise the industry and redefine how businesses think about waste. We believe in a world where nothing is wasted – time, resources, money and effort.

7/9 REDUCE AND CHALLENGE THE PACKAGING
Return what you can to the supplier.

“Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) is a system that mandates packaging producers to fund the full net cost of collecting, sorting, treating, and recycling packaging waste. Obligated organisations have been required to report EPR packaging data since 2023, with financial obligations for large organisations starting in 2025.

Under this principle, the direct cost of recycling specific packaging is borne by those placing the packaging onto the UK market, shifting the responsibility from taxpayers to brand owners and producers. EPR will cover the collection, treatment, and sorting costs of packaging waste through direct payments from producers. Additionally, producers and importers will continue to fund the actual recycling of their packaging waste through the purchase of Packaging Recovery Notes (PRNs).” Clarity

8/9 DON’T CREATE UNNECESSARY JOURNEYS
Avoid short journeys and excessive deliveries.
We operate on an Ocado-model which offers our customers flexibility and less vehicle movement (minimising CO2 production).

For recycling, The Bull have a zero-to-landfill in which they enlisted Binit
